Design & Project Aid w/ Rochelle Imber: Crochet/Knit

Come in for assistance with Knit, Crochet, or Basic Needlepoint projects.  Have a design that you want to alter or even something in mind that you need help working out? Have a current project that has you struggling?

When designing a knitting or crochet project, there are a few key elements to consider. These include:

  1. Yarn weight: The weight of your yarn will determine how thick or thin your project will be. Yarn weight is typically categorized as lace, fingering, sport, DK, worsted, bulky, or super bulky.

  2. Fiber content: Different fibers have different characteristics that can affect the drape, texture, and durability of your project. Common fibers used for knitting and crochet include wool, cotton, acrylic, and silk.

  3. Gauge: Gauge refers to the number of stitches and rows per inch in your knitting or crochet. It is important to match your gauge to the gauge listed in your pattern to ensure your project turns out the correct size.

  4. Pattern stitch: The pattern stitch refers to the stitch pattern or combination of stitches used in your project. This can include simple stitches like garter stitch or more complex stitch patterns like cables or lace.

  5. Color: Color can play a big role in the look and feel of your project. Consider the color palette you want to work with and how different colors will interact with each other.

Once you have a good understanding of these elements, you can start choosing the yarn for your project. It's important to choose a yarn that will work well with your pattern and complement your design.

If you need help with an ongoing knit, crochet, or basic needlepoint project, I can help you troubleshoot any issues you are having, such as picking up stitches, fixing dropped stitches, and creating increases or decreases. I can also provide techniques and tips for achieving a professional finish, such as blocking and weaving in ends.
