Basic sewing knowledge necessary. Students should be able to use their machine to sew a straight seam, wind a bobbin, and thread their machine (store machines available on a limited, first-come basis but student must supply thread). Class intended for students ages 15 and older or ages 10-14 with adult assistance.
Some sewing may be required outside of class times. This class runs over 6 weeks and assumes quilt will be approximately 62in x 76in. Additional sessions available for $15 each (same day/time each week).
Material requirements for a throw-sized quilt approximately 48in x 72in:
*Fabric 1 Large Blocks - 2yds
*Fabric 2 Small Blocks - 1yd
*Fabric 3 Sashing - 2.25yds
If using various fabrics for the large and small blocks, make sure total yardage equals required amount. I used six fabrics in total for my Spring Flowers blocks plus one additional fabric for the sashing. For the Winter version, I used 12 fat quarters for the blocks plus 1yd for sashing to make the small throw at 36in x 56in.
Additional requirements:
*Backing: 3yds
*Batting: 1.5yd to 3yds depending on width of batting
*Binding: 1/2yd
*Sewing machine, thread & bobbins, scissors, pins or clips, any other notions students like to use when sewing.
Fabric can be purchased at Life In The Craft Room, but fabric must be purchased at least one day before class starts.
Preparation prior to first class:
*Fabric must be ironed prior to beginning class.
*Cutting instructions will be emailed prior to class. If possible, please cut before class starts.
Optional:
*Students are encouraged to bring their own rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.
*Pre-washing is not required; however, students may do so if preferred. If pre-washing fabric, students are strongly encouraged to zig-zag stitch each cut edge to avoid excess fraying during the wash and dry. Fabric must be ironed after washing.
*Material requirements for larger quilts available upon request.
