Charity Crafting - Yarn or Fabric
Port Pillows:
Patients getting chemotherapy often have long-term ports that are located where seatbelts land causing great discomfort. These port pillows provide a cushion between the port and the seatbelt. Port Pillows are approximately 3.5in x 4in and can be made from yarn or fabric.
All supplies provided, though any fiber fill or batting donations would be gratefully accepted. Participants can use any 100% cotton fabric.
No experience necessary. These pillows take 15-20 minutes each to make even if you've never sewn before. Knit or crochet pillows will take around 1.5-2 hours if maker is experienced.
No registration required. However, if you want to use one of our machines, please do register if possible. We will have 3 available for use.
My 12-at-a-time tutorial to make 12 ini about 60 minutes is available here: 12-at-a-time port pillow pattern.
Quilts:
Join us to make a community quilt. No experience necessary. Machine(s) provided as well - please complete registration.
You are welcome to drop in if you bring your own sewing machine or want to do tasks that don't involve sewing.
We will work together as a community to make a crazy or scrap quilt that will be donated to Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We have LOTS of scraps - so many we have made several quilts (and there's still lots of scraps)!!! There are different tasks necessary that don't require a sewing machine if you would like to volunteer without sewing.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace provides beds and bedding to children who have none. Volunteers build the beds and deliver the bed, sheets, pillowcases, and quilt to children in the community.
Quilt top(s) will be considered completed when the size is approximately large enough to cover a twin bed or 56"x84". Any quilt top(s) completed here will be finished by adding batting and backing and using yarn to tie the top, batting, and backing together in several places.
Donations of batting would be gratefully accepted.
