Sewing 101: KIDS! - 12 weeks

THIS CLASS IS INTENDED FOR STUDENTS AGES 8-14. A responsible adult is required to remain in the store.

Always wanted to know how to sew, but don't know where to start? Have a sewing machine, but don't know how to use it? Come learn how while having fun and learning about fabric, patterns, and basic sewing skills!

Sewing basics will be discussed with a focus on proper technique and safety. Once you have the basics down, it's time to explore and play with fabric! Beginning sewists will complete 3 beginner-friendly projects.

This is a 8-12 week program depending on student attention span. Classes are scheduled for 1.5 hour; depending on the individual students, classes may run as little as 1 hour. Depending on the students, classes may run as little as a total of 8 hours/sessions or as long as a total of 12 hours/sessions.

Students are not required to take each class in order but beginners are encouraged to do so. Each class will build on previous classes and add new skills and techniques. The classes build skills and knowledge each session.

  1. The first 2-3 classes will cover how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, use different stitches, and use the foot pedal or start/stop button (if applicable). Fabric, thread, and notions are also discussed.
  2. The next 2-3 classes will cover fabric choices and directional prints. Students will complete an apron.
  3. The next 2-3 classes will cover machine quilting. Students will complete a quilted potholder.
